The Revell HO Index |
Introduction |
Revell's major contribution to HO model
railroading lies not so much in its rolling stock, but rather in the
structures it produced. They became instantly recognizable
as they grew to populate many model railroads of the middle 1950's up to
even the present day. Revell took notice of the "little things"
like people, who were included with most structures. They also
added details which greatly enhanced the the realism of the structures.
While not fine scale, they added the things one might find around such a
structure, such as tools, piles of ties, luggage, packing crates,
barrels, grafitti, and other such things. They were also very creative in finding new uses for old tooling. While many of the later structures are simply variations of earlier production, they have been modified sufficiently to appear as totally different structures. Examples include the School House, using Small Town Station tooling, the Suburban House, using Farmhouse tooling, and the Superior Bakery and Weekly Herald using the Engine House tooling. They even used some of their rolling stock tooling to produce an engine crew shanty and a Yardmaster's office. |
